Alumni Engagement and Management


Building on the success of the 2019 JA Global Alumni Conference in Vienna, JA Worldwide is pleased to announce the 2024 JA Global Alumni Summit in Porto, Portugal, in collaboration with JA Alumni Portugal, JA Portugal, JA Alumni Europe, and JA Europe.

Expect a staff journey of knowledge-sharing, cross-cultural connections, upskilling at its finest, inspiring panel discussions, and expert keynotes. 

The JA Global Alumni Summit welcomes any JA staff members involved with alumni, including program managers, marketing professionals, and more. Whether you're initiating, enhancing, or accelerating your alumni community, you'll hear impactful stories, connect with your JA colleagues from around our global organization, and meet with alumni. You'll also gain deeper insights into the needs, aspirations, and challenges today’s alumni face. 

  • Limited tickets available for JA staff: 30 tickets are available for JA staff from around the world.

  • Ticket price for JA staff members: Ticket fees are €400 for a double room or €500 for a single room, including hotel accommodation from August 22–25 (three nights), summit fees, transportation within Porto, and breakfast in the hotel. Ticket fees do not include flights or transportation from and to the airport. 

  • Spread the word: After you've registered, share the news about the summit with your alumni community. Summit attendance is limited to 300. You can find all the resources on oneja.org/alumni. Registration deadline: June 22.

  • Guest policies vary depending on the capacity and registration requirements. We recommend checking the registration details or contacting us directly for more information about guest attendance, as this is an alumni summit. While we strive to accommodate attendees’ needs, please note that bringing guests may not be feasible due to space constraints or other considerations. (However, feel free to bring anyone you desire to Porto. ☺️)

  • JA/INJAZ/YE alumni aged 18 and older are welcome at the summit. For underage attendees who are interested, registration is available on Gather for the free “Underage Ticket.” This ticket allows JA alumni staff to facilitate a smooth and legally compliant registration process on an individual basis, although no guarantees are provided.

Tickets, Accessibility, and Foreign Matters 💼

  • Ticket fees have been highly subsidized to accommodate everyone’s needs and situations.

    GLOBAL ALUMNI: €185 (early bird ends on April 30. Regular price: €200)

    ALUMNI PRESIDENT*: €185 (early bird ends on April 30. Regular price: €200).

    *This ticket includes both the Alumni Leaders Academy Global from August 21–22 and the JA Global Alumni Summit from August 22–25.

    GLOBAL JA STAFF: €500

    WEEKEND TICKET: €160 (limited to 20 spots)

    Additional ticket to purchase: Single room for extra €100.

  • Ticket fees include hotel accommodation in double rooms, summit fees, transportation within Porto, and breakfast in the hotel. Ticket fees do not include flights or transportation from and to the airport.

  • Tickets for the JA Global Alumni Summit are NON-REFUNDABLE.

  • The Giving Back Donation gives interested individuals the opportunity to donate a ticket to support fellow alumni who may face financial obstacles but want to attend the summit. This contribution directly covers the registration fee for another alumni member, promoting inclusivity and solidarity within the community. Through your generosity, a well-deserving alumnus will gain access to this valuable opportunity!

  • Visa requirements vary depending on your nationality and the host country's regulations. We recommend checking with Portugal’s embassy to determine if you need a visa and how to apply. If you have any questions, please fill out the Google form or send a message to summit@gatheralumni.org.

  • Yes. We will provide invitation letters upon request to assist with visa applications. Please fill out the visa form.

  • We are committed to providing a fully accessible event for all attendees. Please inform us of any special accessibility needs by sending a message to summit@gatheralumni.org. We will do our best to accommodate your requirements.

  • Although we'd love to accommodate every language, please note that the summit will be conducted in English. At this time, we regret to inform you that we will not offer translation services. We will inform you if this changes.

  • Yes. We expect all attendees to adhere to our code of conduct, which promotes a respectful and inclusive environment for all participants. The code of conduct will be provided to attendees prior to the event.

Alumni Leaders 🎓

  • All alumni presidents (+ a second person) are invited to join the first-ever Alumni Leaders Academy Global. This event will take place August 21–22. JA Worldwide will cover the cost of the additional night. Attendees should purchase the Alumni President ticket.

Pre-summit Preparations 🎒

  • Follow us on social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Threads [@jaworldwide], and Linkedin) and subscribe to the Gather newsletter for regular updates, announcements, and important information about the summit. You can also visit our website for the latest news and details.

    After you register, you’ll receive all the details for summit CONNECT sessions starting in April. You’ll also receive regular updates via email whenever we have new information to share regarding the summit, including detailed agendas, speaker applications, and more.

  • Bring your smile, enthusiasm, and energy! Feel free to bring some note-taking tools, whether it’s your laptop, tablet, or notebook. For reference, a usual daily spending day in Porto, with food, transportation, and some sightseeing covered, ranges from €60–80.

  • Yes! We are planning optional cultural experiences and sightseeing tours for attendees who wish to explore the host city and its attractions. More information will be available soon.

  • Porto’s captivating blend of history, culture, and scenic beauty make it a delightful blend of academic enrichment and cultural immersion, and the perfect place to hold the JA Global Alumni Summit. Porto boasts a UNESCO World Heritage historical center, where medieval alleys wind around colorful facades. Explore iconic landmarks like the Clerigos Tower and the Dom Luís I Bridge, each telling tales of centuries past. Stroll along the Douro’s banks, soak in the warm ambiance, and indulge in delectable Portuguese cuisine. From fado music to azulejos (traditional ceramic tiles), Porto offers unique cultural experiences. In Porto, every cobblestone whispers stories, and every sunset paints a masterpiece.   • The main venue for our sessions will be at Bibliotecas Municipais do Porto. Stay tuned for hotel details.

  • Transportation from and to the airport will not be covered. All other transport during the summit will be covered by the summit ticket.

Become an admin on Gather: 

Each country group on Gather is eligible for two admin access rights. We recommend one for the JA staff and one for the JA alumnus/alumna. Please make sure to register an account first, then follow these steps:

  1. Either contact the “Gather Admin” on Gather directly or email hello@gatheralumni.org

  2. Sign the admin data protection statement jaww.org/gather_admin

JA Alumni Brand Modernization

As with the main JA brand modernization, JA alumni branding has been updated!

Where can I find my JA alumni branding?

The final version of the JA alumni branding is available! These guidelines include information about the use of the updated JA alumni branding, a link to your JA alumni location logo, the fonts, colors, and links to the new templates. In case you don’t have a JA alumni network yet but would like to start it, feel free to reach out to Sarah Rapp. If you have any questions, please reach out to Howard Leong, who is coordinating the JA Alumni Branding implementation.
